Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

The Museum's Community Engagement & Family Programs team has worked across settings, including in the HS on Rikers Island, to teach students and prepare instructors to teach Math in Motion, a program designed to involve all students in the intersection of math, engineering and design. The curriculum is aimed at sixth, seventh and eighth graders and utilizes a range of algebra, geometry, data collection and problem-solving skills, ultimately using these to have students design their own craft with 3D modeling. The team has worked with educators and instructors of all levels of knowledge to get them confident with content as well as adaptable to the spatial and cultural contexts they are teaching in.
